This week's School Post

I post on xanga each week for my students and their parents. Up until now it has been school related, but this weekend's ride was too good to not share. So here's what I told my 7th graders.

My husband and I took a short motorcycle ride Saturday up highway 46. We crossed the river by ferry at Cumberland City which was interesting, but the exciting thing happened in Dover at Ft. Donelson National Battlefield. We saw two American Bald Eagles! One flew directly overhead, close enough to see its yellow beak. It was wonderful and I wish you could have been there, too!

That was the entire post. I wish you all could have been there too. BW, we talked about you and Gene. Maybe when he comes this fall we will go again. Remember where we ate at the little corner restaurant near the river? This was less than a mile away. Most of the area right around the river is federally protected right now because of the eagles. Some areas where we were just a few weeks ago are now off limits. One of the eagles must be radio tagged because we saw some guys with telometers trying to get a reading.

Have a great week everyone!

  • Reminds me of the one time when we went to see the eagles at Real Foot Lake. Joe(y) was a baby. He had cried most of the night in the lodge so the next morning we were greeted with , "Oh, there's the baby who kept us all awake all night!" and then when we got on the bus to get a closer look at the eagles, he went right to sleep and I didn't get to get out of the bus to look very close at any of them...not that any of them were very close anyway...they were all way in the tops of trees and without binoculars, you couldn't tell what they were anyway! Glad the two of you had a much more exciting time!

  • That sounds like so much fun. Next time we are in that neck of the woods we need to go looking for them...of course, if we are looking we probably will not see them! Any photos?
