Let's see, day 16

We are in week 3, bed 4, including the one actually in the hospital, and we have officially finished one prescription. The first bed, as you may remember, was too short. When the extension finally came, the bed was long enough, but it no longer would correctly operate the head of the bed so that Scott could sit up, eat, or reach the nifty gym system put in place by Bill Moore with Burkett’s assistance. The bed he has now is for much larger people, but it is so much more comfortable that the other issues we are having with it are nominal for now.

I am sleeping on the futon Aaron and I bought while they were here last weekend. Yes, Lyn and Aaron, it is still comfortable and I am happy with it for this purpose. It is plenty long folded as a couch, so I don’t have to make it out every night, and the extra quilts and pillows make it good for daytime use.

Scott over-did a bit early in the week and has had to back off a bit for the last couple of days. He still is getting up, but the hour and a half Monday and Tuesday made for an uncomfortable Wednesday and Thursday. This morning, he woke up and said he thought he could just get out of bed and walk the way he felt, but we did hold off until the guys brought the new bed this afternoon. By the time they finished dismantling and “mantling” he was ready to go back to bed. We will be a bit more careful with the walking program next week.

Speaking of next week, the plan, if you can call it that, is for me to return to work Monday, Wednesday, and Friday next week. The following week, I will try to work 2 days and stay home 3. Hopefully, Scott’s sister will come check on him the days I’m at work during her lunch/plan time. If Monday and Wednesday do not work out or if we get scolded on Thursday by Dr. D, then I’ll probably just take some time off until spring break. We also have some really good neighbors and some great deputies (besides the cat) who will come by and check on him when I’m not home. He’s been waiting until afternoon to walk most days, so hopefully that will continue to work.

His spirits are generally good. Gene was here for the week and was a big help. Bea and Deputy stay close day and night, especially Deputy. They walk with him all the way to the bathroom and back almost every time. The home health nurse didn’t even have a stroke when she came and Dep was in the bed with him.

Speaking of home health, they don’t get to come anymore. Apparently, since I am able to bathe, change bedding and dressings, take vitals, and help him in and out of bed, there is no real reason for them to come. I was hoping for an hour or so a day…I didn’t even get 3 hours total. Scott was told he was too small for the big boy bed, I’ve been told now that I’m a big girl and don’t need help.

There isn’t much good TV on at 3 am just in case you were wondering.
