I Understand

I may not understand everything, but I can sure understand "butt draggin' tired." This is week 5 of school and I'm ready for Labor Day. Whewee! My fanny literally hurts. I don't understand how, I stand up all day. Yesterday and today I caught myself doing something bizarre. I was eating lunch STANDING UP! Why? I guess because I'd been buzzing around my classroom all day and I just couldn't figure out which end went in the chair. Wore my favorite "teacher shoes" today and my feet still hurt. Though my plan is to teach till I'm 100, I don't know if I'll make it to 50 at this rate. I've simply got to learn to teach from a seated position. I need one of those beach lifeguard chairs...or the line umpire chair from tennis.
I read a comment on TH's blog that BW is on her way in 5 short days. Wow! Evil green-eyed monster attack! Can't wait for you to come with your computer and share pics! Do the blog thing again, that was great.
So the only thing going on in my life right now is school. Scott is in South Carolina in the path of what is turning out to be the last of Ernesto. Hope he'll remain depressed and weak instead of raining on Little Scottie.
Lyn has a cool idea for her multimedia class. I mailed her favorite pair of ratty jeans along with 4 yards of tulle. The jeans are going to get wings so she can "fly by the seat of her pants." Can't wait to see how they turn out~
Love to all. I'm going to go take a nap.

This week's School Post

I post on xanga each week for my students and their parents. Up until now it has been school related, but this weekend's ride was too good to not share. So here's what I told my 7th graders.

My husband and I took a short motorcycle ride Saturday up highway 46. We crossed the river by ferry at Cumberland City which was interesting, but the exciting thing happened in Dover at Ft. Donelson National Battlefield. We saw two American Bald Eagles! One flew directly overhead, close enough to see its yellow beak. It was wonderful and I wish you could have been there, too!

That was the entire post. I wish you all could have been there too. BW, we talked about you and Gene. Maybe when he comes this fall we will go again. Remember where we ate at the little corner restaurant near the river? This was less than a mile away. Most of the area right around the river is federally protected right now because of the eagles. Some areas where we were just a few weeks ago are now off limits. One of the eagles must be radio tagged because we saw some guys with telometers trying to get a reading.

Have a great week everyone!

Lyn's unedited video of Deputy

the video wouldn't post, but if we sent it to America's Funniest, we'd be the $100K winners!

Then, We Just Left Her There

We've been gone 27 hours and it seemed like 12. Our original intent, to take Lyn to school, leaving at 2am on Sunday, was vetoed because of the heat. The 4:00 pm weathermen in N'ville said there would be a 16 degree difference btwn Saturday and Sunday...they weren't kidding! So we hopped in the truck, the fully loaded truck, and hightailed it to Searcy. We got in about 9:30, and bless her! Joy let us in the dorm early! YEA! That was such a great relief, we'd been wondering about her stuff being out all night, it just worked out wonderfully. Scott visited with his dad and Faye; Lyn let me help her put things up till we both just decided to stop around midnight. When I left today, her room was in an uproar again, but we had done lots of the hanging stuff in the hall for her RA decor. Sort of an island party theme. When we left, she was about to start graffiti for all her girls.
So, we are home. It is so interesting that in your mind's eye, or at least in mine, that Searcy and Bon Aqua are opposite eachother on the map. But the heat today proved what is the real truth, Searcy is about 100 miles further south! When we got home tonight, the thermometer read 74, it was at least 94 in Searcy, if not more. Miserable heat. Hope Lymit will get used to it quickly.
The cat/dog has/have hidden Aaron's glasses. Deputy is a sucker for anything shiny. Scott once lost a trigger key or some handcuff keys for 6 months because of the cat's propensity to hide sparkles. He and the dog take turns carrying stuff off. So, now, we are on the hunt for hopefully unbroken glasses. I found my wallet under the couch once, 2 rooms away from my purse.
The phone rang.
I walked out to the den to give it to Scott and what was on the floor under the window but Aaron's glasses. And a very guilty looking cat.

My Transitional Life

Got an email; EdS (ABD to the rest of you) may not have met its quota to make. Hmmm. That may require some decision making on my part.
One of the very best bosses I've ever had, one of Lyn and Aaron's favorite assistant principals and coaches, and a brother in Christ has Hodgkin's. He is my current superintendent, Charlie Daniel. (Yes, that really is his name) If you have a list, please add him to it.
Lyn, Scott and I are going to Hendersonville today to specifically help my dad buy a new suit. My oldest niece, V, is getting married in September, Dillard's has spring weight suits 1/2 price, and this is Tennessee's tax holiday weekend. I've never helped my dad buy clothes. I don't think I've ever bought him any clothes. He wore some of Scott's dress shirts for a while after Scott left Wally World, but Daddy still weighed just shy of 200 pounds and had a pretty big neck. He's down to about 145 now. He wants me to come to keep him from making a mistake. V and Bill wouldn't care if he came in his underwear, as long as he could come, that would be enough, but Daddy is still a bit of a clothes man, so we will do this. I don't know why my transitioning from what Mother did for him and what I do for Aaron and Scott is feeling so strange. Aaron has only picked out superhero T's and Hawaiian shirts, ever. Scott went from his mother doing the buying to me doing it. We went from Wrangler's to Levi's with one trip to the store...now he's in Diamond Gusset's and is seriously trying to buy stock. Once again, that was a one trip wonder, I've done it since. Is it because it really does seem like a "caretaker" activity, even though the only thing that has changed for either of us is the person saying, "That one is nice" or "NO!"?
Lyn's Memphis trip got canceled once again. The father of the young man brought unexpected guests home from Mexico, so Lyn's bed disappeared. Last time, his folks took a trip leaving him home with his brother. So, that wouldn't have been a good time to go. They are going to try to meet in Searcy before he heads to Italy with Beckie. Lyn handles disappointment with such aplomb, you never really know if she is upset or not.
I've started what may be my biggest knitting project to date. A nautical afghan for my brother's boat. He has a queen size bed in the aft stateroom and there is absolutely NO decoration of any sort in there. So, I figured a signal flags afghan would be appropriate. Its acrylic yarn, so he can take it topside and the lake or ocean air shouldn't rot it for a hundred years. Only thing is, I didn't read how big it was before I started. I have 3 squares done on a 9 square strip (about 1/3 of the length and 1/4 of the width.) It is a little over 20" wide and about 30" long already. This thing is going to be HUGE! Good thing I love him!
I was about to close and post when Scott called me to the kitchen. We've had abotu 16 hummingbirds this summer at our feeders. We are sure some of them have nests. That isn't the story. We also have a mating pair of hawks (shiny chins maybe?) who hunt right out the kitchen door. One has been up in the tree with the clothesline on it until just seconds ago when he/she swooped in for the kill. No wonder our squirrel and chipmunk population seems to be dwindling!

Cat box Query

Why is it that Deputy doesn't have to "go" until I've emptied his box? Today, he wasn't just standing there meorowing with his back legs crossed, no! He had his front 2 feet in the box and his head in the litter bag "helping". Does it HAVE to be annointed? EVERYTIME?
None of you have cats, do you?
